~It is my birthday~

…from ‘Drifting Toward Light’

It is my birthday, but you are immersed in the thickness of cloud.
So I go about my business – morning meditation and preparation for work.
The day is overcast, air heavy with the immanence of storm
I leave you in bed with the quilt a comfort moulded to your fetal form.
Later, arriving home, I smell the red wine staining your papers
but then the higher floral note of my birthday bouquet –
the shock a bright moment of colour shifting us closer to light.
